Qualis Books

We are rated as L1 in the CAPES Qualis Books evaluation for the quadrennium 2013-2016 in the Education and Environmental Sciences areas. See the report here.

We did not have access to the official reports of other knowledge areas, but we can make simulations.

In the text of this link, we explain in detail how the Qualis Books evaluation works and what the competencies of each part are for a good rating of the works by CAPES.

The books published by Pimenta Cultural start at the minimum level L3, due to the grades assigned to each criterion for the classification of each work in the respective Qualis Books classification level. The classification levels assigned to the works are: L1 (high quality), L2, L3, L4, L5 (lower quality), and LNC. LNC "not classified" would be assigned to possible items included by programs, but that do not meet the requirements that define a book, which could be booklets, teaching materials, etc.

We meet all the criteria for the highest classification of works assigned by CAPES. We conducted a simulation with our latest published works and scored above 88 points. In this case, our works would be assigned the L1 classification (point simulation updated on 02/03/2020). However, the final evaluation of works published with us is carried out by the CAPES. Committee and not by the publisher. Therefore, this is only a scoring simulation for the knowledge of our authors.

As Capes itself explains, the list of evaluations is not disclosed, serving only for the evaluation of PPGs. See the Capes Book Classification Guide of 2009.

According to Capes, "due to technical-operational limitations, the classification of books is being used exclusively for the evaluation process. That is, at this moment, the list of classified books is not disclosed. The areas that use book classification for the evaluation of Postgraduate Programs have been doing the procedure directly through indicator notebooks, for evaluation of Postgraduate Programs and/or specific spreadsheets, and their disclosure has been happening within the area, that is, directly to the programs." Furthermore, according to Capes, the institution "does not have a registry of publishers nor does it evaluate their quality".

An important final point to note is that Capes still does not disclose or send the list of book evaluations to publishers or publicly on other platforms.
