How to write in the third person

Talk about the subject in general terms. Sometimes an author needs to make a reference to a subject without naming him or her specifically. In other words, he needs to mention the person in general rather than some already known person. In this case, there is usually a temptation to write "you. In this case, however, it is appropriate to use a generalized noun or pronoun, either indefinite, determinative or negative.

Pronouns that can be used for the same purpose include: someone, someone, some (indefinite); all, everyone, anyone (determinative); no one (negative).

Avoid the redundant "he or she" construction. Sometimes modern authors write "he or she" instead of "he" even though the subject is originally mentioned in the masculine gender.
